Facilities

  • Downstairs
    • The bathroom downstairs is just outside shack has tub/shower, towels, etc for your use. Spare TP is usually in bottom drawer of vanity, more in upstairs bathroom in the white hamper. Feel free to use anything in the medicine cabinet downstairs. It normally has aspirin, Tylenol, Tums, Chloraseptic, razors, toothpaste, etc.

  • Upstairs
    • The bathroom upstairs is behind the kitchen.
    • The kitchen, dining, living room area is available for cooking, eating, watching TV etc.
    • For multi-ops I normally run a computer on the logging network upstairs to watch proceedings. This computer is part of the logging network so don’t use for surfing or other stuff.

  • Sleeping
    • There are 2 bunk rooms. One with a single double bed, the other with 4 twin size bunk beds. The come complete with sheets, pillows, blankets.
    • There are alarm clocks in the bunk rooms. If you set them be sure to turn them off.
    • If the bedrooms are full there are two couches upstairs. There are normally spare blankets and pillows in the tall cabinet in the living/dining room. There are also spare blankets and pillows in the cabinet in the bunk room. If you sleep on a couch don’t be surprised to wake up to a big wet nose in your face.
    • For multi-ops it is usually best to make sure one of the other operators know to wake you up. If it is a multi-op where I have printed up a schedule the operators who are on the air should keep track of what time they should be relieved and make sure their relief ops are awake.
    • I sleep at night. I don’t do well late at night but do get up early in the morning. Once I go to bed keep the TV turned down. Don’t use the dvd player if anyone is sleeping in the bunk room, the bass speaker rattles the ceiling down there.

  • Wireless Network
    • I run 2 wireless access points. The ‘K1TTT’ one is for the logging network, don’t use this one. The ‘GUEST’ one is for other stuff. While I do have DSL remember that it is shared with my webserver, mailserver, webcams, cluster backbone and users, WX station, propagation displays, spot suckers, etc, etc… so please don’t push it with big downloads or streaming audio/video.
    • There is a shared printer on the k1ttt-node server if you really need to print something. It is not fast, and since I don’t use it much you can expect the ink to be either dried out or spotty.
    • While you can access the internet from any of the logging machines, please don’t during multi-op contests. If you are SO2R it’s up to you. DO NOT download any software or change configurations of the logging machines. They do not run virus protection or anything else to keep the performance at its best, so be careful on them if you do need to go to the web for anything.
    • I normally do have a spare machine running that you can use for surfing the web or other stuff during contests. The one at my desk next to the phone is usually the best one to use if you need to check mail or something.

  • Phone
    • Most cell phones won’t work in this area. Cingular is the only one that I think is reliable right here. If you need to phone home feel free to use my wired phone, there is one in the shack and one in the kitchen on the wall. I have some kind of nationwide unlimited plan so don’t worry about calls. If you need to give someone the number for emergencies and such it is 413-655-2714.
