2018 Trail Camera

Below I will post the small version of some of the interesting pictures with comments, click on the image for a full resolution version. You can also browse the raw archive grouped by year and date of download at: Trailcam Archive. The files with "(Small)" in the name are low resolution versions for quicker previewing, the others are the full files from the camera. I have it set to take 3 megapixel resolution at night and 10 megapixel during the day, and to take 3 pictures per trigger. The date and time plus temperature, barometer, and moon phase should be at the bottom of each picture. If you find something interesting that I didn't put below let me know, sometimes I don't look real close if I'm busy.

Previous year blogs are available on the Trail Cam Blogs annual index page which is also accessible from the link in the left side navigation bar.

Bottom

2/10 Finally something other than me and the dogs! One fuzzy fox went back and forth a couple times this last week.

Image

2/24 Not from the trailcam but interesting anyway... It looks like a Pileated Woodpecker has been busy on some trees near the trailcam.

First a bunch of holes on a pine.

Image

Image

The chips on the ground.

Image

A big old maple that isn't going to stand much longer.

Image

3/12 Warm and melty lured this little guy out, look at the temperature, 46f at almost 9pm. Then 2 big nor'easters probably drove him back as nothing has moved besides me and the dogs since this was taken almost 2 weeks ago.

Image

4/22 DUCK! DUCK! goose??? no geese yet, pond still mostly frozen so they are in other ponds.

Image

4/29 Now things are starting to move around better. Got a fox and a couple deer this week.

Image

Image

5/31 Not that much different stuff recently. One fox that keeps going back and forth at night. But did get a deer after sunrise.

Image

6/10 A rare picture of the 3 of us walking, usually they are far ahead or behind.

Image

6/17 The geese had a small brood this spring, only 2 of them made it to my pond.

Image

7/2 Two rare sightings in the last 2 weeks... a turkey trotting and a rabbit hop hop hopping along.

Image

Image

7/15 More turkeys, rabbits, and deer this week, but nothing outstanding.

7/22 A deer at night...

Image

followed 15 minutes later by a coyote. Last week I saw a coyote chasing a deer early in the morning.

Image

It seems that two turkeys like the field by the pond.

Image

8/13 A velvety buck in daylight!

Image

8/14 The things you see when you don't have a camera. While walking the dogs up the road I saw a bunch of sticks with the leafs ripped off. They were all quaking aspen ends of branches like I would normally see after a big wind event, but we hadn't had one recently. The branches were also neatly nipped off and the leafs were torn apart not ripped completely off like a wind would do, like this one:

Image

I looked around to see where the tree was they came from and way up over head found this rare Peruvian Porcupine about 35' up a tree that was missing lots of leafs. It looks like it had been working on that tree for a while. I knew these things were climbers but never thought they went this far up or that far out on the branches!

Image

Zoomed in.

Image

8/23 I moved the camera for a few days to see what has been making a path over the dam into the pond... caught this otter last night.

Image

9/2 Lots of deer and coyote moving around this week. And then there was this little guy... fisher or otter?? I think I can see ears sticking up more than I would expect of an otter so I'm going to call it a fisher.

Image

A good size coyote at sunset.

Image

9/30 Lots of stuff at night this week, deer back and forth, a bunch of these little guys,

Image

and a big old beaver wandering around

Image

10/7 Lots of deer going back and forth, including this buck that appears to have only one antler.

Image

Image

10/28 Lots of pictures this week, mostly deer going back and forth including the one antler buck several times.

11/4 Lots of pictures again. This time a couple interesting ones. I think this is the first skunk I have caught.

Image

A buck with a full rack.

Image

and a coyote posing for the camera

Image

12/30 Hasn't been much moving until most of the snow melted off. Got a couple pictures of a small fox, or is it a fisher cat??
