2013 Trail Camera

Below I will post the small version of some of the interesting pictures with comments, click on the image for a full resolution version. You can also browse the raw archive grouped by year and date of download at: Trailcam Archive. The files with "(Small)" in the name are low resolution versions for quicker previewing, the others are the full files from the camera. I have it set to take 3 megapixel resolution at night and 10 megapixel during the day, and to take 3 pictures per trigger. The date and time plus temperature, barometer, and moon phase should be at the bottom of each picture. If you find something interesting that I didn't put below let me know, sometimes I don't look real close if I'm busy.

Previous year blogs are available on the Trail Cam Blogs annual index page which is also accessible from the link in the left side navigation bar.

Bottom

Good snow to start the year, but not much activity in it besides Pablo and me.

Image

Well, the fox is still wandering around... nothing else seems to be moving though.

Image

Early morning skiing to avoid expected snow and wind later.

Image

A pair of foxes this time:

Image

Image

and then there are these two coyotes???

Image

Not much going on in the snow, but the good news is that the UPS battery I put on there about December 1st is still taking pictures at night. That's over 2 1/2 months on one charge in some really cold weather. Here is it's latest night catch:

Image

Skinny fox walking straight at the camera?

Image

A pair of something... Fox sinking in snow? Raccoons?? Easy one to see in middle of frame, the other one to the right on the far side of the stream.

Image

This fox isn't having any trouble with the snow.

Image

Downloaded again on 3/15 and 3/30, still about a foot of snow on the ground and the only activity is a fox and coyote at night. It is still interesting that the UPS battery is still taking night pictures after almost 4 months of winter temperatures.

Image

Now there is a new one... a turkey in the snow.

Image

And definitely a raccoon for two nights in a row.

Image

A real turkey trot going on now!

Image

And then... which way did they go???

Image

Which way did they go???

Image

The first deer in a while.

Image

Always just a little bit too late...

Image

Ok, what is this??? Send me your best guess, answer later.

Image

And who is this little guy??

Image

Downloaded a couple times since the last picture I posted, most are pictures of me and Pablo during the day. Night time pictures are mostly deer with an occasional fox. Good news is that the UPS battery is still running, after a whole winter and now through most of the spring it is still taking night flash pictures.

Yep, lots of night pictures still... in 5/27 download (directory 2013_05_27 in the archive) the first 60 pictures or so are one then two deer just wandering back and forth in front of the camera... then a single fox. Then Pablo taking me for a walk and some pictures of a Deere.. then back to more night time deer.

I deleted a lot of the 6/2 download as they were mostly of Deere, most of what is left are deer.

But there is a nice turkey:

Image

And now a goose with a gaggle of geeselings:

Image

This one may not be from the trailcam, but it is wildlife... Pablo and his new friend:

Image

And finally a pair of bear. The first one must have tripped the camera when there was enough light for the infra-red but not enough to switch to daylight color mode.

Image

The second one is in full color about 10 minutes later.

Image

Download on 6/21 got a whole bunch of pictures of deer at night, and bear both day and night.

Momma and fawn:

At least not all the blank pictures are false triggers:

Harem of 1:

Harem of 2, same buck or different one??:

Lonely buck:

Still trying to figure out which way they went:

Bigger brother:

Someone with lots of spikes!

9/20/2013, the UPS battery finally died. Pictures from the last download are all weirdly colored and the controller kept doing weird things when I was trying to check the setup. I took it down and brought it back to the house. When I checked the voltage the battery was down to 5.5v. Since the battery was put on the camera 12/1/2012 this is pretty good life, almost 10 months outside including the whole winter.

This is what happened to the pictures when the battery was that low:

Image

Haven't seen a bear in a while.

Image

Nice rack:

Little brother:

Image

Baby prongs:

Image

Download on 10/19 had 144 pictures, most of deer going back and forth at night.

Download on 10/25 had 234 pictures, I was afraid there would be a lot of empty ones due to high winds, but they were almost all deer at night.

Good portrait of the biggest buck:

Image

Some doe right about sunset:

Image

Pablo all decked out in his autumn finest, still trying to figure out which way they went:

Image

Buck looking over his shoulder.

Image

Good size coyote looking around... must see the light from the flash.

Image

Bow hunter around sunrise.

Image

13 hours later, guess he didn't get this one.

Image

11/10 download was much like last week. A hunter or two, a bunch of deer, one coyote, and a few Pablos.

Hunter going out

Image

Next pictures are deer coming in

Image

Brothers?

Image

Note that the time in all pictures since Daylight Savings Time ended are off by an hour. 11/24 download doesn't have anything really unique, mostly the same deer going back and forth.

12/1 download pretty sparse. Was cold windy week so only a few deer moving at night. Times are still off by an hour on the picture timestamps, I thought it would be set from last weeks download but maybe I have to force it to update the camera clock.

12/8 Camera times should be right now, more snow and wind, deer kind of sparse but still some moving around.

Image

Pablo likes the snow!

Image

12/29 Not much activity, a fox and one deer, but otherwise just me and Pablo.
